This is a very intense Hiking Expedition that traverses through valleys, forest and high mountain desert with amazing views of the Andes Mountains.

  • Day 1: Hiking time: 3-4hrs. Distance: 10km/6,2ml.
    Altitude gain: 700m/2300ft. Terrain: trails.

  • Day 2: Hiking time: 7hrs. Distance: 17km/10,5ml.
    Altitude gain: +700m, -800m /+2.300ft, -2.600ft. Terrain: trails, rocks, snow.

  • Day 3: Hiking time: 6hrs. Distance: 18km/11ml.
    Altitude gain: – 600m /-1.950ft Terrain: trails, rocks, snow.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 – Starting after lunch. Transfer from your hotel or Bariloche Airport to the base of Mount Catedral to start the hiking to the Refugio Frey (1650 msnm). The trail goes along native forest ascending up to the glacier cirque valley where the Frey Mountain Hut is located. 

DAY 2 – After breakfast you will start to climb from Frey to the Rucaco pass on Catedral Ridge (2050 msnm), where the view of the valleys, mountains and volcanoes that forms the Andes is superb! The trekking continues downhill to Rucaco valley where you will stop for lunch. Then the ascent continues to gain the Brecha Negra pass with a new breath-taking panoramic view and another descent to reach San Martin Mountain Hut (1520 msnm) and Jacob lagoon.

DAY 3 – After breakfast you will hike around the area to visit “Laguna de los Tempanos”, back to the Refugio to have lunch and start the long trail down to the village. Overnight at Bariloche.
